How to Budget for Rent Cheques in the UAE

Plan annual rent and cheque payments without mistaking money in your bank account for money available to spend.

Educational information only. Terms, fees and regulations can change; verify details with the relevant provider.

Calculate your monthly rent reserve

For AED 72,000 annual rent, reserve AED 6,000 each month. This is the same monthly reserve whether you pay in one, two, four or twelve instalments.

Map cheque dates to cash flow

Record the amount and date of each rent cheque. If a cheque is due before you have accumulated enough reserves, you need a separate short-term cash-flow plan.

Include related housing costs

Budget separately for utilities, district cooling, internet, moving costs and any applicable housing-related charges. Avoid counting the same expense twice.

Protect your rent reserve

Keep money earmarked for rent separate from discretionary spending so it is available when a cheque is presented.
